Prince George's Community College Hosts Mental Health Speaker Event in Honor of Mental Health Awareness Month
LARGO, MD (May 7, 2024) — In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) proudly announced its upcoming Mental Health Speaker event exploring mental health issues and resources. The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 9, at 1:30 p.m. in Lanham Hall Room 125 on the Largo campus.
Notable event speakers, including PGCC’s Wellness and Mental Health Center Program Director Dr. Danielle LaSure-Bryant, Associate Professor Dawn Gillom-Carter, and mental health professional Nyki Caldwell Brown, hope to foster awareness and support for mental wellness within the College’s community and beyond. Additionally, representatives from community partners will attend, including the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Prince George’s County, Maryland, and Generation DMV Inc.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has continued to address the challenges faced by millions of Americans living with mental health conditions. PGCC remains dedicated to advancing the conversation and fostering a supportive environment for students and families impacted by mental illness.
“To kick off Mental Health Awareness Month, PGCC is honored to host this important event,” said Dr. Danielle LaSure-Bryant, program director for PGCC's Wellness and Mental Health Center. “Through meaningful conversation and collaboration with our community partners, we hope to amplify awareness and promote mental well-being.”
