Advising Staff

  • Who are the Academic Advisors?

valfordVeronica Alford is the Manager of Articulation and Transfer Services.
She has a B.A. degree from Fisk University,(An HBCU) ), and a Master’s degree from George Washington University. Veronica was an advisor for thirty years (that’s a lot of advising) prior to becoming Transfer Manager. She loves transfer, but she also loves woodworking and crafting with rubber stamps. She coordinates our programs with all Maryland four-year state schools, and she modestly claims to be an expert on the LEP Business Program at UMCP., She can help you to select the specific courses at PGCC that will fit precisely with the major you have selected at your transfer school in Maryland. She can help with your transfer plans even to private institutions and out of state colleges and universities, but guarantees cannot be made for those schools as they can be for Maryland state Universities.

ccaldwellCandice Caldwell welcomes new and returning students and can help them identify their academic goals. She loves to work with students interested in career exploration, and is always ready to advise about transfer. Candice is one of a few who advise students in our Nursing and Allied Health Programs. She received her A.A.S. from Massachusetts Bay Community College, B.A. from Lesley College and M.A. from Trinity University. She is especially knowledgeable about transfer to Howard University and also facilitates our “Special Day” transfer workshops. She coordinates our Allied Health and Nursing Day, Business Transfer Day and Criminal Justice Transfer Day Programs. Every year she seems to add a new special day program.

Some advisors are specifically assigned to work with transfer, but all advisors are skilled in helping with your transfer needs.

She is a marathon runner and also enjoys swimming, cycling and skiing. Julie says: “ Bienvenidos a PGCC.”

As you can see, we have advisors from varied backgrounds. They have hobbies and many outside interests. Several speak more than one language. If you want to speak Arabic, Persian, Spanish, French or maybe some other language, someone is our office can probably help you. Our advisors are interesting, intelligent and caring people. I am sure you can find the right one to help with your transfer needs. Come in to see one of us.

We also have advisors at our extension centers: Laurel College Center, University Town Center and Andrews Air Force Base. You may get specific information about these centers at this website:   On campus or off campus, we are available to assist you with your advising and transfer needs.
