The Creating Opportunities for Academic Success and Transfer (COAST) Program offers strategic academic and student support services to students in 18 Prince George’s County high schools. COAST Advisors serve as the “in-house” Prince George’s Community College representatives and manage all pre-enrollment advising for general recruitment and dual enrollment at each of their schools.

Our Advisors

In a concerted effort to boost statewide college-readiness initiatives, COAST Advisors engage students in meaningful and diverse workshops and activities such as scholarship and application drives, financial aid workshops, parent meetings, dual enrollment information sessions, grade level discussions, collegiate testing support, relevant college preparation conversations, and summer bridge opportunities.

Student Benefits

The ongoing partnership between students and their COAST Advisors is critical in achieving academic and personal success! Students benefit from the vast knowledge and guidance from the COAST Advisors, along with the support of school-based staff, through individual and group meetings to discuss current and future academic and career goals.

Program Objectives

Objective 1: Dual Enrollment

Advisors will provide informational workshops, recruitment, application and registration support, check-ins to assist in boosting the county's dual enrollment program participation rate. 

Objective 2: Senior Recruitment

Advisors will conduct application drives, advising sessions, and Prince George's Community College (PGCC) campus tours to increase the number of students who attend PGCC following their senior year in high school. 

 

Objective 3: College & Career Readiness Support

Advisors will provide financial aid/scholarship workshops and College 101 sessions to increase student knowledge about topics to gear them towards their academic and personal success as they prepare for their college and career journey.
