  • A Quick Reference Guide for Employees and Students

    What should I do if…

    In the event of an emergency situation, appropriate communication will be sent to the college community via the College Web site, e-mail, and Owl Alert and / or television and radio stations.

  • On Campus Violence or Hostility

    Criminal/Suspicious Activity
    • Observe the incident. Do not intervene.
    • Call or have someone call Campus Police on extension 0666, 0111 or 911
    • Relay any descriptive information about the suspect to the Campus Police Dispatcher, note vehicle description, license number, and direction of travel, if applicable. 
    Workplace/Classroom Violence
    If you perceive an immediate threat of bodily harm, immediately contact the Campus Police on extension 0666 . Relay any descriptive information about the suspect to the Campus Police Dispatcher.
    Disengage or leave the area
    Workplace/Classroom disruptions that do not pose an immediate threat of bodily harm should be reported to the Dean of Human Resources and the Vice President for Student Services, respectively.
    Hostile Intruder/Active Shooter

    Chemical Spill, Bomb Threat and Evacuation

    Chemical Spill
    • Call the Police/Fire department at 911, and contact Campus Police on extension 0666.
    • Do not try to deal with a chemical spill if you have not been trained.
    • If you are contaminated, rinse yourself with large amounts of water.
    Bomb Threat

    If you receive a bomb threat, take notes and try to find out:

    • Where the bomb is
    • When it will explode
    • What it looks like
    • Why the bomb was planted
    • Immediately after you hang up the phone, dial *57 so the police will be able to trace the call, then call Campus Police on extension 0666.
    • Evacuate building if necessary.
    • Wait for Campus Police to announce the "All Clear" when the danger has subsided.
    Evacuation

    If evacuation of a building is necessary: 

    • Walk quickly to nearest exit
    • Help persons requiring assistance out of the building or off landing
    • Go to the nearest evacuation assembly area, as listed below
    • Remain in the assembly area until All Clear alert is issued

    Fire on Campus, Tornado and Shelter-in-Place

    Small Fire
    • If it is a small controlled fire, notify Campus Police on extension 0666.
    • Try to contain the fire with fire extinguishers (located throughout campus).
    • Campus Police will respond to the location of the fire and take appropriate action.
    Major Fire
    • If it is a major fire and/or explosion, activate the "Emergency Fire Evacuation System" by pulling a wall-mounted pull station near the incident.
    • Call the Police/Fire department at 911, and contact Campus Police on extension 0666.
    • Assist in evacuating the building.
    • Do not use elevators during a major fire emergency.
    • Wait for Campus Police to announce the "All Clear" when the danger has subsided.
    Tornado
    • Take Charge - Move students and all others to the refuge areas on campus (e.g., stairwells, interior rooms without windows, interior corridors). Stay away from windows when possible. Try to get to lower levels.
    • Wait for Campus Police to announce the "All Clear" when the danger has subsided.
    Shelter-In-Place
    • If told to shelter-in-place, go inside, close all doors and windows.
    • Stay inside and wait for Campus Police to announce the 'All Clear'.

    Medical Assistance

    Medical Assistance
    • Stay with the sick or injured person.
    • Notify the Campus Police on extension 0666, or call 911 if it is a life threatening situation.
    • Give aid to the individual, if applicable, until Campus Police arrives.

    Utility Failure and Data Network or Telephone Interruption

    Utility Failure
    • Report utility failures, during regular work hours (Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), to Facilities Management on extension 0658 or 0655; report utility failures after regular work hours, on weekends and holidays to the Campus Police on extension 0666.
    • Move to a natural lighted area or to an area that is on emergency power.
    • If it is not a storm-related failure, leave the building and wait for power to be restored.
    • If it is storm related, move to one of the refuge areas on campus (e.g., stairwells, interior rooms without windows, interior corridors, etc.).
    Network or Telephone Interruption
    • Report data network and telephone system interruptions to Technology Services on extension 0637.

    Mobile App MOX 


     MOXAccess 

    MOX TM (Mobile Access) is a free mobile app giving students, employees, and members of the community easy access to important information about the college. It features a directory of contact information for key offices, an interactive Google map and feeds for news and events.

    MOX TM is currently available to Apple mobile device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), BlackBerry and Android users. Based on the type of mobile device that you have, visit either the App Store, BlackBerry App World, or Android Market to download MOX TM . Upon download, choose Prince George’s Community College from the list of colleges and universities, and you are ready to use the app.
