LARGO, Md.—Prince George's Community College (PGCC) recently conducted a contest to select a victory song for the institution. Created to increase college pride and encourage students to envision success, the contest generated a dozen entries from students, staff and faculty. Judges chose adjunct English professor Tracy Johnson’s entry, “Victorious” as the official college victory song.  Plans to put the lyrics to music are currently underway.

“We wanted students to get excited about attending and graduating from Prince George's Community College,” said Kalika R. White, grants accountant at PGCC and lyrics contest committee member. “The victory song will be performed at all athletic events, commencement and other student activities,” she added.

The song’s refrain reads “Excellence is our motto in everything we create. We are partners of positive change in our quest to educate. We’re wise as owls with astonishing diversity and that is one reason why we pledge our love and loyalty!”

Contest rules stated that lyrics should be original and approximately 60–90 seconds in length.  Judging was based on creativity, originality and usability.  Johnson will be awarded a $500 PGCC Bookstore voucher from Neebo.
