On September 17, 2014, Capital One Bank – the eighth largest bank holding company in the US – approved a $20,000 grant to Prince George’s Community College Foundation, Inc. The grant will support the expansion of the Entrepreneurs Development Program (EDP), a joint effort between the college’s Business Collegian Center, Hillman Entrepreneurs Scholarship Program, and the Center for Entrepreneurship Development. The Entrepreneurs Development Program is expected to serve 125 PGCC students – from among all credit and noncredit disciplines – through business simulations, boot camps, internships, and direct interaction with business professionals and Capital One bankers. The program objective is to enrich traditional learning with hands-on opportunities geared toward jumpstarting the students’ entrepreneurial careers.
“Capital One’s assistance in this collaborative effort provides students with access,” said Ruth Lewis, program director, Hillman Entrepreneurs Program, “to tangible resources and a direct channel to individuals who can strongly contribute to the learning experience are embedded in this program, and by cultivating these relationships, students will gain the courage to place their foot in the world of business.”
