LARGO, MARYLAND – Prince George’s Community College will host its Annual Golf Tournament organized by the Office of Institutional Advancement and Prince George's Community College Foundation on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Country Club at Woodmore in Mitchellville, Maryland. Now in its 25th year, the college’s premier outdoor event has garnered support from some of the county’s most influential leaders in business, politics and education. In the past, proceeds from the annual golf tournament have gone to benefit the Alumni Association endowed scholarship, however, this year the tournament has expanded to include all scholarships. The event begins at 8:00 a.m., and will commence with remarks from Prince George’s Community College president, Dr. Charlene M. Dukes.

“Each year the Prince George’s Community College Foundation provides more than $400,000 in scholarships to deserving students here at the college,” said Dr. Charlene M. Dukes.  “The tournament has been the college’s primary means of raising those funds in support of the alumni association endowed academic scholarship fund, and I’d like to thank Brenda Mitchell, the Prince George’s Community College’s Foundation and the Prince George’s Community College’s Alumni Association, for being such an essential part of the institution’s success in nurturing and supporting our alumni, current students, staff and faculty,” she said.

Serving as golf chairmen for this year’s tournament are Darrell Lanier and Steve Proctor who are commended for their continuous support of the college. The Prince George’s Community College Foundation recently announced that its highly successful major gifts campaign, Purpose, People, Possibilities, raised more than $31 million to assist the institution in increasing collaboration, partnerships, and mission-compatible funding between education, business, and government sectors. The expectation at the outset of the campaign was to raise $15 million, but that goal was swiftly reached and then surpassed.

Dr. Charlene M. Dukes continued by saying, “It is only because of the commitment and generosity of our individual donors, corporations, education partners and volunteers that our successes are possible. We remain grateful to all of you for supporting the College’s work. Thank you for your generosity, advice, and foresight. Thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to Prince George’s Community College.”
