Envision Success: Kevin Marshall Conquers MGM Express Training

Stories of Success: Kevin Marshall, graduate, MGM National Harbor Hospitality Express Training 

After 19 years as a Regional Director of Customer Service and Sales for Verizon, Kevin Marshall found himself at a crossroads in his career.   He knew that he enjoyed working with people and was a proven customer care manager, but how could he translate those skills outside of the call center?  That is when he received an email from the Prince George’s County One Stop Career Center, announcing the newly created MGM National Harbor Hospitality Express Training class at Prince George’s Community College.    

Kevin registered for the course after attending an information session. He grew more and more excited to learn about the hospitality industry, and working in a casino and entertainment environment. Once in the classroom, Kevin found that the high importance of quality guest service resonated with him, and aligned to his nearly 20 years of professional experience. Light bulbs flashed as he started to see how he could apply his skill set to the hospitality industry. This was further illuminated by the guest lecturers.     

After spending a week at the Prince George’s County Visitor’s Bureau for the required on-site job experience, Kevin finished the class enthusiastic about what may lay ahead for his career in hospitality. And, he was voted by his peers as the “Stand-out Professional” in the class, due to his willingness to assist others and eagerness to share his wealth of knowledge and service experience.     

Kevin sums up his experience by saying, “I think anyone who is interested in hospitality, and those who may be unsure what the industry is about, will learn a lot and really enjoy the experience of the course.”  

Now, Kevin is inspired to work in the hospitality industry, and has gained additional tools to make him a competitive candidate. He is very interested in the multiple hospitality venues at National Harbor, including MGM. He continues to give back to the MGM and PGCC program that got him re-energized and focused on future career possibilities. Kevin assists at the College with information sessions on the course, sharing his personal experience and informing all prospective students about the course’s value.
