After initially breaking ground at a ceremony that included the United States Tennis Association (USTA), American Express, professional tennis player Sloane Stephens and Prince George’s Community College representatives, during the Summer of 2013, PGCC is ready to unveil the college’s brand new tennis courts. Just announced today, PGCC will hold a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Largo, Maryland campus.

The renovations, which include seven 78’ refurbished tennis courts with 36'/60' blended lines and two additional permanent 36’ courts designed for youth players, are expected to draw major interest from the nearby community, as well as tournament players and organizations. The overhaul to the athletic facilities is part of the American Express Fresh Courts Program, a philanthropic partnership between USTA and American Express where they invest in developing communities through the renovation of existing, dis-repaired tennis facilities in various markets across the United States. In addition to enhancing this community resource, the new tennis courts are integral to the college’s ultimate plan of reviving the student tennis program.

“We are extremely pleased to have reached this milestone,” said Charlene M. Dukes, president of Prince George’s Community College. “The new tennis courts look great, and they are representative of the transformations continually taking place on our campuses across the county. We are consistently reaching our goal of providing students and the community with top-notch resources—and that is very exciting!”
