LARGO, Md.—TeamBuilders Academy at Prince George’s Community College, a cohort-based accelerated adult career training program, hosts the second annual Summer Workforce Training Program, July 5, Westphalia Training Center in Upper Marlboro, MD. Ten high-school students, selected to participate by the TeamBuilders Academy and Prince George's County Public Schools, will learn construction trade skills during the four-week summer program.
“The TeamBuilders Academy remains committed to developing relationships within the business community that improve the training experience we provide,” said Thomisha Duru, program director, TeamBuilders Academy. “In the spring, the academy received a donation of 21 tool belts valued at $325.00 from Lowe’s in Largo. We will continue to seek out similar corporate sponsorships,” she added.
TeamBuilders Academy began in April 2009 and was inspired by former Prince George’s County Council member Tony Knotts who recognized a need for a specialized job training program to support his community. TeamBuilders Academy is now open to all eligible adult residents of Prince George’s County who are chronically unemployed and eager to enter the workforce but need training, guidance and assistance to establish a solid career path.
