Refugee and Asylee ESL Program

The Refugee and Asylee ESL Program is for you if... 

  • You've been granted refugee, asylee, or SIV status within the last 5 years
  • You would like to develop your speaking and understanding of English for life and work, OR
  • You would like to develop your English language skills for employment, OR
  • You want to prepare for enrollment at the college, OR
  • You want to learn more about U.S. culture.

We offer... 

  • Literacy, beginning, low-intermediate, and high-intermediate level English classes
  • Instruction and practice in speaking and understanding workplace English
  • Instruction in English reading, writing, speaking and listening
  • Instruction in basic computer skills
  • Development of inter-cultural competence

Classes are available... 

  • At University Town Center in Hyattsville, near the Mall at Prince George's (Prince George's Plaza)
  • At The Greater Riverdale Career Empowerment Center, in Riverdale Park
  • Monday-Friday in the morning and afternoon

Classes are free; textbooks and class supplies are provided. 

To register for this program, participants must:

  • Have been granted refugee, asylee, or SIV status within the last 5 years
  • Bring your passport and I-94 to a scheduled registration. Check our schedule for registration dates.
