Are you ready to take your English skills to the next level?

Transition ESL is for you if...

  • You are confident of your English speaking skills to navigate within the community and your workplace, and you want to improve your English reading, grammar and vocabulary, OR
  • You took the Michigan Test at the college and scored a 45 or below, OR
  • You are enrolled in Academic ESL 0811 or 0821 and need additional support

Courses are available...

  • At sites around Prince George's County
  • Saturday mornings in Largo and Langley Park
  • Weekday evenings at some locations

Spring 2013 Transition ESL classes, for intermediate to advanced level students, will be offered at two locations:   

Morning Classes:

Classes: 

Pronunciation and Fluency   

Practice the basic vowel sounds and word stress patterns of American English. Activities focus on improving your ability to make yourself understood in English, to better understand American English speakers, and to improve your spelling skills.  10 sessions, $100 plus books/materials.

Grammar for English Language Learners   

Learn about the differences between the grammar of spoken English and the grammar of written English in a variety of life and work situations.  10 sessions, $50 plus books/materials.

Conversational English 

Learn common conversational phrases and improve your listening and speaking skills through discussions about interesting topics.10 sessions, $50 plus books/materials.

Vocabulary Expansion   

Increase your English vocabulary through activities showing how the addition of prefixes and suffixes, and changes in pronunciation can change the meaning of words.  10 sessions, $50 plus books/materials.

Preparation for the U.S. Citizenship Test   

Study the questions and information covered on the U.S. Citizenship Test and prepare for your naturalization interview by participating in practice interview sessions.  20 sessions, $50 plus books/materials. 

NOTE:  This class meets 4 nights a week for 5 weeks.
