Literacy Classes and Tutoring

Prince George’s Community College’s Adult Literacy and Tutoring Program helps students build the basic reading, writing, and math skills needed for success in school, at work, and in our community.  Instruction is provided through one-on-one tutoring, small group classes, and a teacher-guided computer lab.  Trained volunteer tutors use the Laubach Way to Reading, a time tested method that has taught millions of adults, all over the world, to read.  Classes offer a balanced reading program.  The computer lab offers reinforcing phonemic awareness and reading practice.

Call 240 696-2888 to ask about free reading classes or tutoring.  New students will be given a placement test and assigned to a tutor and/or class on a space-available basis.

Literacy Volunteers

One in five adults can’t read this sentence. You can help change that!

The Adult Literacy and Tutoring program welcomes applications from adults who are interested in volunteering as literacy tutors for adult beginning readers.  As a trained tutor you will have the skills to make a difference.

To learn more, please call 240 696-2888 or e-mail Jill Hall (halljf@pgcc.edu) or Loreta Jordan (jordanlm@pgcc.edu).
