CST-406 - Welding

This course begins with a three day orientation, which provides an introduction, safety, equipment, processes, theory, and an outline of course requirements. Orientation is required for all first-time students. Beginning through advanced students are provided training in the ARC welding (S.M.A.W.) process and techniques required to become certified by the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 unlimited structural steel welding code. The college also provides training for pipe welding with the special requirements needed for A.S.M.E. Section IX Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and certification testing. Students desiring pipe welding are strongly advised, but not required, to be proficient in the skills needed for AWS D1.1, including the four basic weld positions: flat, horizontal, vertical up, and overhead, with 7018 1/8" low hydrogen electrodes.
