About Honors Academy


    The Honors Academy is designed for academically outstanding students who are interested in a rigorous program of academic excellence, intellectual development, leadership, and community service.


    *Dual Admission

    Honors Academy Scholars may hold dual admission in Prince George’s Community College and a participating four-year college or university. Currently, students may choose dual admission with American University, Catholic University of America, Howard University, Towson University, Goucher College, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Washington College, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and the University of Maryland, College Park.  Upon graduation from Prince George’s Community College, an Honors Academy student transfers seamlessly into the dual admission four-year institution. An Honors Academy student also has the option of transferring to any college or university that is not part of the dual admission agreement.

    *Financial Support
    An Honors Academy scholar receives financial support from Prince George's Community College as long as he or she satisfies the requirements of the Academy and maintains his or her eligibility. Upon graduation from Prince George’s Community College, the Honors Academy scholar will receive financial support from the partnering four-year college or university.

    *Excellent Education and Opportunities 
    At Prince George's Community College, Honors Academy scholars:

    • become members of the Honors Program and Honors Society
    • study with outstanding faculty
    • have an Honors Academy advisor
    • may participate in research and internships
    • work with fellow Academy scholars
    • may be inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society

    What are the eligibility requirements?

    To apply for the Honors Academy, currently enrolled Prince George’s Community College students must:

    • have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher, based on at least 12 college credits

    • be eligible for Math 1040 or higher

    • have grade of A in EGL 1010 or EGL 1010H

    • be member of or eligible for Honors Program at time application is submitted

    For incoming students to Prince George’s Community College, students must:

    • have applied for admission to the college
    • have a 3.50 minimum cumulative high school GPA AND a 1650 SAT score (including the writing sample) or
    • Accuplacer Reading= 95, Accuplacer Sentence Structure= 108
    • Accuplacer Elementary Algebra= 82 or higher
    • be eligible for admission into the Honors Program

    What are the the obligations of an Honors Academy Scholar?

    If admitted into the Honors Academy, the student must maintain eligibility by:

    • attending full-time (minimum of 12 credits)
    • maintaining a 3.5 cumulative GPA
    • performing 15 hours of community service each semester
    • taking on a leadership role in the Honors Society and throughout campus
    • meeting regularly with the Honors Academy advisor to determine the appropriate course of study
    • determining a timetable for completion of an AA or AS degree
    • completing a minimum of 7 Honors courses, one of which must be an Honors Colloquium.
    • graduating from Prince George’s Community College prior to transfer

    What is the deadline for applications?

    The deadline for application to the Honors Academy for consideration for the Fall semester is no later than June 1.
