About Honors Academy


    The Honors Academy at Prince George’s Community College is for academically outstanding students who are interested in a rigorous program of academic excellence, intellectual development, leadership, and community service.

    Benefits of the Honors Academy


    Financial Support

    An Honors Academy Scholar receives financial support from Prince George’s Community College as long as he or she satisfies the requirements of the Academy.  Upon graduation from Prince George’s Community College, the Honors Academy Scholar will receive Honors recognition, a seamless transfer into the dual admission college or university, and financial support at the four-year institution.

    Excellent Education and Opportunities

    At Prince George’s Community College, Honors Academy Scholars:

    -           study with outstanding faculty

    -           have an Honors Academy advisor

    -           become a member of the college’s Honor Society

    -           will be eligible for induction into Phi Theta Kappa international Honor Society

    Honors Academy partnering institutions include American University; Catholic University; Goucher College; Howard University; St. Mary’s College; Towson University; University of Maryland, Baltimore County; University of Maryland, College Park; and Washington College. Upon graduation from Prince George’s Community College, the Honors Academy scholar receives Honors Academy recognition and may seamlessly transfer to a partnering institution. Honors Academy students must be interested in transferring to one of these partnering institutions.

    Obligations of an Honors Academy Scholar

    If a student is admitted to the Honors Academy, he or she is responsible for:

               meeting with the Honors Academy Advisor within a month of admission to the Academy to determine the appropriate course of study

              meeting with the Honors Academy Advisor each semester prior to enrolling for the next

    semester establishing a timetable for completion of your AS/AA degree

              completing a minimum of 7 honors courses, four of which may be honors contracts, and at least one must be an Honors Colloquium

              maintaining a cumulative 3.5 grade point average

              performing 15 hours of approved community service and leadership each semester

              attending school fulltime (minimum of 12 credits)


    What is the deadline for applications?

    The deadline for application to the Honors Academy for consideration for the Fall semester is no later than June 1, 4pm.
