Prince George's Community College H1N1 Update
Prince George’s Community College is taking steps to ensure the safety of its students and employees as it relates to the Novel H1N1 flu currently receiving considerable attention in the media. It is important to note that the state of Maryland has confirmed cases of H1N1.
As you may know, flu can be spread easily from person to person. Therefore, we are taking steps to prevent the spread of flu at PGCC for as long as possible, but we need your help. We ask that you and your family continue to take the following general precautions for preventing seasonal flu and other communicable diseases:
- Cover your nose and mouth with your sleeve or a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers also are effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs are often spread that way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- If you get sick, stay home and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Know the signs and symptoms of the flu: runny nose, cough, sore throat, malaise, achy joints and muscles, fever > 100.0.
We are working closely with the county health department’s emergency management team. We will provide updates as new information becomes available.
