INFORMATION ABOUT JOINT BASE ANDREWS CENTER


Prince George's Community College on Andrews is a safe, convenient location for those living in the southern part of Prince George's County. Located on Joint Base Andrews since 1972, the college offers a full range of services, such as admission, placement testing, registration and academic advising, and at least 50-70 course offerings each fall and spring semester. Classes are small and personal. Associate degrees offered are Accounting, Business Management, Business Administration, Criminal Justice and General Studies along with several certificate programs. Civilians can easily access the base through the Visitor Center just outside the main gate off Allentown Road. Approximately 65% of Prince George's Community College students on Andrews have a military ID. Nearly all credit courses offered are in the evening at various locations on the base. In the spring and fall semesters, Andrews offers up to 10 weekenders and other alternative formats. Summer sessions are 5, 6 or 8 weeks in length and weekenders are also available.

SERVICES AT JOINT BASE ANDREWS CENTER

Admissions

Joint Base Andrews location offers a full range of services to students. We process applications on site and the paper copy is sent to the Records office at Largo campus for your permanent record file. A non-refundable application fee of $25.00 may be paid by check, money order or credit. We do not take cash payments.

Placement Testing:

Andrews offers the free Accuplacer Test (placement test) on a walk-in or appointment basis. We offer the same tests as Largo: reading comprehension, Sentence Structure and mathematics. Samples of the Accuplacer are available at Andrews. Re-testing is available upon request.

You will take your test on a personal computer system in our technology lab. Your test results are printed immediately when you ’ re done, and you may then meet with an academic adviser, who will help you choose courses based on your scores.

Transfer students who transfer courses in college level English and mathematics may be exempt from all or parts of the placement test. Ask an adviser if you are not sure.

Academic Advising

Academic advisers are available Monday through Thursday but advising hours vary. Call 301-322-0778 or 301-981-5949 for specific times the advisers are available.

Advisers can assist you with test score interpretation, course selection, career advice, course transfer information, study skills and can answer concerns you have about your enrollment. After consulting with an adviser, you'll be ready to register for classes.

Registration for Credit Classes

The staff at Andrews is ready to help you with any forms associated with enrolling or registering for college. Registration is a big step and we make it as easy as possible for you.

In-person registration at Andrews is available only for those students who have a military ID or have current base access.

If you register in person at Andrews, we will process your registration form and print your bill. You can pay at Andrews too! We also handle forms for withdrawal, adding and dropping classes, transfer credit evaluation requests, requests for official transcripts, name and address changes, curriculum changes and Veterans' Administration applications.

If you are a civilian and are planning on taking classes on Andrews, you may register for the Andrews location from any other location. You will be notified later by mail on how to get your base pass for class access on base (see "Frequently Asked Questions" about obtaining a base pass). Registration for Non-credit Classes

We process non-credit course registrations at Andrews. We offer Continuing Education courses only for senior citizens. Registration can be processed at any location for Andrews and information about obtaining a base pass will be mailed to you later.

Accepting Payments/Financial Aid

We accept payment for credit and non-credit courses. At Andrews, we accept all types of payments except cash. We process checks, money orders, credit/debit cards and purchase orders (employer paid tuition). This includes Tuition Assistance through the military branches. F.A.C.T.S./NBS deferred payment plan and Free Applications for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) are available online. Purchasing Books

Joint Base Andrews does not have an on-site college bookstore. You may purchase your books directly from the Largo campus bookstore or on the Web. Call ahead for Bookstore hours at 301-322-0912. Consult with College Book Store for more information.
