The Center offers approximately 150 credit classes each fall and spring semester and 60 in the summer. Classes are small, personal, and available throughout the day from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 pm. UTC is open Monday through Saturday during the fall and spring, and Monday through Friday over the summer.
Services
Admissions
: New and transferring credit students can apply for admission to the College at UTC. The application fee of $25.00 may be paid by check, money order, or credit card.
We do not take cash payments.
When submitting an application, individuals who are not U.S. citizens must present evidence of permanent U.S. residency in the form of an original resident alien card or, for asylees, an original I-94 card. The UTC staff will make a photocopy and attach it to the application form. This information is gathered solely for purposes of establishing the tuition rate.
For applicants who attended a university outside the U.S., information is available about the transfer evaluation process for foreign course work.
Placement Testing
: UTC offers placement testing on Mondays and Wednesdays. No appointment is necessary, but individuals planning to take the placement test must be signed in by 10:15 a.m. The test begins promptly at 10:30 a.m. Your application for admission must be on file before you take the test. Students are strongly encouraged to pick up and review a sample of the appropriate placement test prior to taking the test. Samples are available at the front desk. See the advising staff for more information.
After the test, you will be given an appointment for orientation. Orientation typically lasts two hours, including an individual meeting with an advisor to develop a class schedule based on the test results.
Transfer students who transfer courses in college level English and mathematics may be exempt from all or parts of the placement test. Ask an advisor if you are not sure.
Academic Advising
: Academic advisors are available at UTC. Advisors can assist you with test score interpretation, course selection, career advice, transfer information, study skills, and enrollment concerns. To avoid concerns about prerequisites, students who have earned academic credit from other institutions should bring a copy of their records to show the advisor.
Registration for credit and continuing education classes
: The staff at UTC is always ready to help you with any forms associat ed with enrolling or registering for college. (It is not necessary to apply for admission to register for continuing education classes.) If you register in person with us, we will process your registration form and print your schedule/bill.
Accepting payments/Financial Aid
: You can pay for credit and continuing education courses at UTC. We accept checks, money orders, credit cards, and purchase orders (employer paid tuition), but
cash is not accepted. Payment for continuing education classes is due at the time of registration. Credit students have the option of participating in the deferred payment plan (F.A.C.T.S.) and/or applying for financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
