Hair Care
Program Summary
Cosmetologists and other barbering students learn how to cut and shave hair and run barber shops. They prepare for licensure, studying a range of practical subjects including everything from scalp massages to health and safety. PGCC offers five 3 hour classes that focus specifically on hair braiding for either personal or professional use.
Employment Trends
- Expect jobs for cosmetologists to grow at an average pace through 2014. The news is not as good for barbers and hair specialists with more limited services. Cosmetologists licensed in a variety of services will find the most jobs.
- Jobs in salons are likely to pay the most where tips are an important part of earnings.
- Many people work part-time, taking advantage of the flexible work hours.
Program Objectives
A Certificate of Completion is awarded at the end of the completion of each level (each three hour sequence) of this class. For the complete course description and materials the student needs to purchase, please see the Schedule of Classes. As these classes fill up quickly, it is recommended that students register as soon as possible.
