Program Summary

The Applied Music and Voice Institute provides individual instruction by professional instructors for instrumental music and voice. Lessons are scheduled in half-hour or one-hour formats by mutual agreement of the student and a Music Department faculty member. Instrumental music instruction is open to all ages. You must be 14 or older to study voice. Instruments are not provided.
 
Continuous registration is conducted through Admissions and Records. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the Music Department at 301-322-0955 or visit Marlboro Hall, Room 1068, to arrange for the time of the lessons and for an instructor. After this is completed the student must register and pay the tuition.


Program Objectives

  • Skills development and preparation leading to a Bachelor’s Degree or professional certification
  • Continuing Education Certificate in Applied Music.
    The Prince George’s Community College Continuing Education Office now offers a Continuing Education Certificate in either piano or basic piano and guitar. This certificate is for students who have completed three or more 12-hour classes in piano study or who have completed Music Appreciation: Piano; Group Guitar and Music Made Easy. It is awarded to students who have learned the following: the application of scales and chords to harmonize melodies; read music; play music by ear; and demonstrate an application of the basic techniques used in playing music.(piano or basic piano and guitar combination.)
