Time Requirements for Students’ Academic Success

At Prince George’s Community College, students’ academic success is determined both by attending to the instruction provided by the faculty and by the time spent studying. The college’s formal credit hour definition follows.

Credit Hour Definition at Prince George’s Community College
At Prince George’s Community College a credit hour is defined as the amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student achievement that is an institutionally established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less than:

  1. One hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks or the equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time.
  2. At least an equivalent amount of work as required in item 1of this definition for other academic activities, including laboratory work, internships, practica, studio work, and other academic work leading to the award of credit hours

 

Supporting Successful Learning

Prince George's Community College offers a wide range of services to support successful learning. Students are encouraged to speak with an adviser to plan their course of studies and to take advantage of all available resources as needed. Tutoring and writing services are available to help with course work. The counseling center can help with a variety of personal and mental health issues. The career center is available to help students plan for career preparation or transfer to a four year college or university. International students can find support in the International Education Center. The Dream Keepers Emergency Financial Assistance program at Prince George’s Community College is designed to help students avoid dropping out when faced with unforeseen financial difficulties.We hope that you will explore all the Prince George's Community College has to offer.
