Communication and Theatre Department

Dear Prospective Speech Communication, Mass Communication, or Theatre Student,

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the Communication and Theatre Department and its programs.

We have a concentration in Speech Communication leading to an AA degree. You can then transfer to a 4 year school to complete a bachelor’s degree. Majoring in Speech Communication will prepare you for careers in teaching, marketing, public relations, consulting and many other areas of professional communication. In Mass Communication we offer two programs, an A.A. degree or a certificate program. The concentration in Television, Radio and Film, leading to an AA degree, prepares you to transfer to a 4 year school to complete a bachelor’s degree. You can then seek work in career areas such as radio announcing, editing, program directing, production assisting and on technical and film crews.
 
The Media Production Certificate is designed to prepare you to utilize current technology to produce, shoot, and edit video and multimedia productions. It is geared toward people who may need to gain production skills for their current position or to those pursuing a career change. You will gain technical knowledge and training with a background in mass media history and trends. Click here for Media Programs & Clubs.
 
In Theatre, we offer two possibilities, an AA degree program or a certificate program. You can complete a concentration in Theatre with an emphasis on either foundations or performance, leading to an AA degree. After transferring to a 4 year school and finishing your bachelor’s degree, you will be able to seek careers in acting, directing, and technical theatre, such as scenery construction and lighting. If you have a special interest in technical theatre, you might want to enroll in our Theatre and Entertainment Technology certificate program. Click here for Communication and Theatre web site.

The Theatre and Entertainment Technology certificate, a 33 credit hour program, is offered in partnership with the local stage hands union. You will study areas such as theatre computer automation and control, concert and stage special effects, and film and studio mechanics.Click here for Theatre Entertainment Technology.
