LARGO, Md.— A projected 818 students will receive associate degrees and certificates at the 49th Annual Commencement of Prince George’s Community College on May 22, 7 p.m., at Showplace Arena and Prince George's Equestrian Center. President Charlene M. Dukes will present welcoming remarks to students, family and friends during the ceremony. Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown is the guest speaker.
Students who completed programs in summer and fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters will receive Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Arts in Teaching, and Associate of Applied Science degrees, and program certificates. In addition, President Dukes will confer an honorary degree to Lt. Governor Brown.
“Commencement signifies the accomplishment of a goal that is focused on commitment, perseverance, hard work, and the recognition that higher education is important,” said President Dukes. “The class of 2008 is well poised to continue their studies for a bachelor's degree or other certification, move immediately into the workforce, or just revel in their pursuit of lifelong learning,” she added.
Prince George's Community College provides students with opportunities to transfer to four-year institutions, engage in service to the community, prepare for careers in a global economy and develop leadership skills. “Attending Prince George's Community College was only one chapter in their lives,” said President Dukes. “I am extremely proud of our students and look forward to learning of the great things they will accomplish in their professional and personal lives,” she continued.
