Fall Art Exhibits and Music Concerts Inspire Educational Culture

Prince George's Community College 51st Annual Art Faculty Exhibition Begins Oct. 19

LARGO, Md.— Prince George’s Community College will host a series of events that combine education with music and art. Observe breathtaking artwork and listen to enchanting music presented by the community as well as students and faculty of PGCC throughout the fall season.

Experience the diverse talents of faculty at Prince George’s Community College during its 51st Annual Art Faculty Exhibition, Oct. 19-Nov. 12, Marlboro Gallery. The annual exhibition reveals dedication to the art-making process as well as teaching. Art faculty produces professional art and exhibits locally, nationally and internationally in various media including ceramics, computer graphics, drawing, painting, photography and sculpture. The community is invited to a reception Thursday, Oct. 29, 6–8 p.m. Exhibition closes at noon on the final day and is closed Tuesday, Oct. 27. Some works are for sale.

Attend the PGCC Music Faculty Recital, Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1 p.m., Marlboro Gallery for a concert of piano solos, duets and quartets. Soprano Angelina Shumway and pianist Gary Kirkeby are among the faculty performing.

View emerging talent among the gallery art scene at the Fall 2009 Juried Student Art League Exhibition, Nov. 18–Dec. 10, Marlboro Gallery. The semi-annual student exhibition exposes promising artists to the public. Artists will display their newest works. Prominent judges choose award-winning selections from the participating artists. The public is invited to a reception, Thursday, Dec. 3, 6–8 p.m. The gallery will be closed Nov. 25-27 for the Thanksgiving holiday, and the exhibition closes at noon on the final day. Many works are for sale.

Enjoy Prince George’s Community College Student Jazz Ensemble during the Student Jazz Concert, Friday, Dec. 4, 2 p.m., Marlboro Gallery. The concert is under the direction of Ned Judy, professor of music.

Appreciate performances by students in advanced voice and instrumental courses during the Music Student Honors Recital, Wednesday, Dec. 9, 8 p.m., Marlboro Gallery. Students will showcase what they learned in music during the fall semester.
