LARGO, Md.— Seven students have been awarded full-tuition scholarships worth $6,000 each for a two-year period to Prince George's Community College. During the academic year, students have received educational opportunities and retention support through the Apartment and Office Building Association (AOBA) of Metropolitan Washington and property owners of low to moderate income apartment communities. The college and AOBA will host a reception for the scholarship recipients at the 14th Annual AOBA Scholarship Ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 22, 6:30-8 p.m., Marlboro Gallery.
“Prince George's Community College and AOBA have partnered for 14 years,” said Brenda Mitchell, director of development. “AOBA's continued support has enabled nearly 100 students to participate in the program which includes mentoring, job shadowing and internship opportunities,” she added.

Helzy Diaz (Hyattsville, Md.), Northwestern High School
Daniel Herron (Laurel, Md.), Laurel High School
Christina Johnson (Clinton, Md.), Fruit of Our Labor Christian Homeschool
Danyelle McElrath (Clinton, Md.), Surrattsville High School
Michael Robinson (Greenbelt, Md.), Eleanor Roosevelt High School
Tracy Yeung (Ft. Washington, Md.), Friendly High School
Since 1996, AOBA has funded nearly 100 scholarships and contributed more than $500,000 to the college. Scholars participate in a successful academic and career preparation program with emphasis on leadership and community service. Past awardees have successfully transferred to four-year universities to pursue bachelor’s degrees after completing an associate degree program. Applicants must be a resident of Prince George’s County, accepted for admission to Prince George's Community College and hold a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Preference is given to applicants residing in apartment communities owned or managed by members of AOBA.
