LARGO, Md.— Prince George’s Community College hosts Governor Martin O’Malley and the Governor’s Workforce Investment Board as they launch Skills2Compete Maryland during a news conference on Tuesday, Mar. 2, 12:30 p.m. in the Center for Advanced Technology on the Largo campus.
Speakers at the news conference include Governor O’Malley, Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, PGCC President Charlene M. Dukes, GWIB Executive Director Eric Seleznow and PGCC student David Stewart-Howard.
“By embracing the new workforce development initiatives presented by Governor O’Malley and combined with the programs that Prince George’s Community College has in place, we will increase the post-secondary success of our students and contribute to Maryland’s long-term economic recovery,” said President Dukes.
The news conference will culminate with a tour of the Center for Advanced Technology, including demonstrations that feature PGCC’s programs such as the Authorized Apple Training Center, Center for Minority Business Development, CyberWATCH, Visual Communication laboratory and the 3-D technology laboratory.
Skills2Compete Maryland, led by GWIB, is a statewide initiative designed to increase post-secondary success and strengthen the skills of Maryland’s workforce. Specifically, the program will increase the number of Marylanders who achieve at least one year of post-secondary education or training to meet the demands of Maryland’s employers.
