Applying For Financial Aid

These steps must be followed every year for need-based financial aid.
  1. Complete the FAFSA
    Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) either by mailing the hard copy to the Federal Processor OR file electronically. This is the first step in applying for financial aid.
  2. Student Aid Report (SAR)
    The Student Aid Report (SAR) is the result of filing the FAFSA. You should receive the SAR about 3 to 14 days after completing the FAFSA
  3. Verifying Documentation
    Be prepared to submit verifying documentation to the financial aid office to support the data you provided on the FAFSA. This documentation may include, but not be limited to, your and spouse's (if married) and/or parent's signed federal income tax forms and W-2 statements, social security benefits forms, original social security number cards, eligible non-citizen documentation. Other documents may be requested after reviewing your SAR.
    • Get copies of tax returns

    • Selective Service Administration
      Virtually all men in the U.S. are required to register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Men must be registered to be in compliance with federal law and stay eligible for student loans and grants, government jobs, job training, all security background clearances, and U.S. citizenship for immigrants.
    • Email the Financial Aid Office
      Contact the Financial Aid Office if you have question about your the documentation you have been asked to provide.

  4. Financial Aid Information Form
    Complete a Financial Aid Information Form, available from the financial aid office.
    • View Financial Aid Information Form
      Download, print, complete this form. Then, bring your form to the Financial Aid Office.
    • Visit the Financial Aid Office to drop off your Financial Aid Information Form. Download this map to locate the Financial Aid Office We are located in Bladen Hall, Room 121
  5. Verification Worksheet
    Complete a Verification Worksheet. If you have provided parent income information on the FAFSA, you must complete a Dependent Verification Worksheet and have one parent signature in addition to your student signature. If you have provided only student (and spouse) income, complete an Independent Verification Worksheet.
  6. Entrance Counseling
    Complete entrance counseling online.
  7. To apply for a loan, contact the Financial Aid Office
