Department of Teacher Education

The Department of Teacher Education provides opportunities for current and future child care providers, teachers, and school employees to expand their knowledge and skills in the field of education. These opportunities prepare individuals to learn and grow through degrees, certificates, and career pathways. Courses are offered in a variety of formats, including online, day, evening, weekends, and accelerated formats for the convenience of those who work and have busy lives.

If you want to become a teacher, the college offers several Associate of Arts in Teaching degrees enabling students to complete the first two years of a teacher preparation program and transfer to a four-year institution in Maryland to complete a Bachelor's degree and become certified. For students who want to work as child care professionals or direct a large group child care facility, the college offers certificates, career pathways, and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education.

For individuals with Bachelor's degrees and beyond, we offer the courses necessary to obtain teacher certification, and support students in obtaining the additional requirements needed for Maryland Certification through “alternative pathway” or “credit count pathway” programs. In addition, we offer courses for teachers who are seeking additional endorsements (certifications), recertification, or professional development opportunities.
