Computer Keyboarding

Updated: Jun 05

Program Summary

Organizations need to process a rapidly growing amount of information. Data entry and information processing workers help ensure the smooth and efficient handling of information. By typing text, entering data into a computer, operating a variety of office machines, and performing other clerical duties, these workers help organizations keep up with the rapid changes that are characteristic of today’s Information Age.

Employment Trends

  • Employers generally hire high school graduates who meet their requirements for keyboarding speed.
  • The need to replace workers who leave this large occupation each year should produce many job openings.
  • Job prospects should be best for those with expertise in appropriate computer software applications.

Program Objectives

  • Successful completion of each course earns a Certificate of Completion

These courses consist of a series of student-centered instructional modules using “touch keyboarding” procedures. Students use computers, receive frequent instructional feedback, and are given the opportunity to discuss problems with their instructor. Registration in the keyboarding courses will give the student 15 hours of scheduled, individualized classroom instruction. In addition, open laboratory practice time is available. Check with your instructor on open lab availability.
