Swimming Pool Management
Program Summary
This PGCC course highlights the most important topics in pool operations, maintenance, and safety including circulation, filtration, chemistry, safety and risk management. This program is designed for pool or aquatic facility operators and supervisors who need special education and training in pool operations in order to meet local and/or state health code requirements. It is also ideal for those in the hospitality industry with aquatic facilities as well as for head lifeguards who need refresher training.
Program Objectives
- Successful completion of each course earns a Certificate of Completion
- Skills development and preparation potentially leading to professional credentialing
Program Curriculum
To qualify, the student must be 16 years or older and take one of the two courses:
- Swimming Pool Management
This is a 15-hour course covering the topics of water chemistry, filtration process, chlorination, record keeping, common pool problems and legal responsibilities. Courses are typically offered in March, April, May, and June.
- Swimming Pool Management Recertification
License renewal is required every 3 years. Four hours of education are required. Courses are scheduled concurrently with the Swimming Pool Management courses in March, April, May, and June.
The Certificate of Completion for the Swimming Pool Management course, then, must be taken to:

The permit counter is open between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
The Pool Operator's License is $50; duplicates will cost $15.00. Your receipt of payment can be used as a temporary license until the license is mailed to you within 10 days of application.
