Children’s Developmental Clinic

Program Summary

The Children’s Developmental Clinic is a community service conducted by PGCC in cooperation with the College of Health and Human Performance, University of Maryland School of Public Health. The clinic provides special services to children experiencing a range of developmental difficulties such as learning problems, physical fitness and coordination problems, mental retardation, emotional problems, or orthopedic challenges. Children are accepted into the program through professional referrals from teachers, pediatricians, psychologists, and therapists.

During the Fall and Spring Semesters, children attend the nine-week program on Saturday mornings. During the summer, the college offers a four-week program that runs Mondays-Thursdays from late June until mid-July.

During these sessions, a child works one-on-one with a trained clinician on motor development skills tailored to meet the needs of that individual child. If appropriate, children also can be enrolled in language and/or reading programs. A parent education program runs in conjunction with the children’s’ sessions.
