Accreditation Information

The State of Maryland requires that all Pharmacy Technicians will be certified. Students who successfully complete this program and clinical, and provide and pass the background check will be eligible to register with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy. This program also prepares students for the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. See website at www.ptcb.org.

Pharmacy technicians help licensed pharmacists dispense medication. Technicians work in pharmacies, including those found in grocery and drug stores, and hospitals on a full or part-time basis. This five-month program, including 160 hours of clinical experience is approved by the Maryland Board of Pharmacy and for VA Benefit. Successful completion results in Maryland state certification and prepares students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam (PTCE) for national certification.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must provide proof of Math (QAS Algebra score 257+) and Reading (Score of 243+) proficiency on the Accuplacer test or college credits (within 2 years)                                                                  
  • Have access to the Internet

  • Review PreAccuplacer Video and print Completion Certificate
  • Provide Completion Certificate, Placement Test Referral form, and Picture ID to the Testing Center  
  • Accuplacer Reading Score Required: 243 or above
  • Accuplacer QAS (Algebra) Score Required: 257 or above
  • or HES 577 - Medical Math (online):                                                           
  • or DVM-0071 - Introductory Algebra
  • or Unofficial College transcript (Algebra completion within 2 years)
