Accreditation Information

The State of Maryland requires that all Pharmacy Technicians will be certified. Students who successfully complete this program and clinical, and provide and pass the background check will be eligible to register with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy. This program also prepares students for the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. See website at

Pharmacy technicians help licensed pharmacists dispense medication. Technicians work in pharmacies, including those found in grocery and drug stores, and hospitals on a full or part-time basis. This five-month program, including 160 hours of clinical experience is approved by the Maryland Board of Pharmacy and results in Maryland state certification. This program also prepares students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam (PTCE) for national certification.

  START HERE - Prior to registration:

  • Provide a completed Placement Test Referral form to the Testing Center  
  • Accuplacer  Reading Comprehension Placement Testing:    65%
  • Accuplacer Elementary Algebra Placement Testing:             82%
  • or HES 577 - Medical Math (online):                                                           
  • or DVM-0070 - Introductory Algebra
  • or Unofficial College transcript (math completion within 2 years)
  • and Copy of HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Bring these documents to CHS 2401 for verification
