Next Step for Career Development and Progression

Next Step aims to equip students with skills, experiences, and practices needed to advance their careers and wages.

The Next Step Training and Education program has been in existence since 2001. The program is funded entirely by the local Department of Social Services (DSS), headed by Gloria Brown, Director. Clients' participating in the DSS welfare to work program are referred to Next Step with a primary goal of earning marketable skills and degrees leading to gainful employment.

 Next Step 2

Next Step welcomes new students in quarterly orientation sessions held in January, April, July and October. The average number of students participating in each orientation is approximately 20-25.

After Students express an interest in the Next step program, they are required to take a math and reading assessment called CASAS. If a student scores on an acceptable level for math and reading, their Next Step application is forwarded to DSS for approval. DSS staff members review all the applications and forward it to Next Step with a Stamp of approval or denial. All approved students received an invitation to the next scheduled orientation session held in different locations on the campus of Prince George's Community College (PGCC).
