 HES 690: Introduction to Dental Assisting Part 1: 

To Begin :

  • Review PreAccuplacer Video and print Certificate of Completion
  • First time students must Register in Owl Link
  • Prepare, take picture ID, Certificate of Completion, and Placement Test Referral form to Testing Center
  • Score at least 65 on the Accuplacer Reading Comprehension Test
  • Bring HS diploma or equivalent and reading test results to Karen Ferrigon in the Center for Health Studies (CHS) Bldg. Room 2401
  • High School Diploma or equivalent  
  • Ability to speak and understand standard American English
  • Purchase Textbook:Modern Dental Assisting (12th Ed.) ISBN 978032343929 
  • Read Chapters 1 and 2 and complete associated workbook assignments prior to first class session.  
  • Scrubs (coronado blue preferred) and medical footwear

HES 519: Introduction to Dental Assisting: Part 2 ( Dental Radiology) : 

Prerequisites: Must be met before taking HES 519:  

     For Continuing Students (Following Successful Completion of Part I):

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Successfully Complete HES 690
  • Purchase textbook, Radiographic Imaging for the Dental Team, 4th ed., ISBN 9781416060048
  • Complete registration requirements
  • Complete HES 344 CPR for Health Professionals course
For New Employed Students: (Completed Dental Assisting Elsewhere)  
  • At least 18 years of age
  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Complete HES 344 CPR for Health Professionals course
  • Score at least 65 on the Accuplacer Reading Comprehension Test
  • Provide proof of completion of a basic dental assisting course   
  • Possess a working knowledge of basic oral anatomy, basic infection control and basic dental terminology
  • Provide a letter from the employing dentist verifying employment and a commitment to your direct clinical supervision
  • Must satisfy one of the pathway requirements below prior to taking the course: 
    • Pathway I:   3 months (300 hours) full-time employment in a clinical setting in a dental office
    • Pathway II:  Must be employed in a dental office for direct clinical supervision

HES 491: Dental Externship 

  • After successful completion of Dental Assisting Parts 1 and 2
  • Requires reliable transportation

 HES 689  Dental Radiology Recertification and Refresher 
 Location:  CHS 2102 - Saturday -  9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. - $160  
  • Provides continuing education and review training in radiation competencies
