Helping Students Afford College

A scholarship is a sum of money or other aid granted to a student based on merit, need, or an academic objective to pursue their studies.

Prince George's Community College offers dozens of scholarship opportunities for both first-time and returning college students. There are more than 30 institutional scholarships available to returning students.

Scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year will open between April 11 and April 15.

The fall 2023 AOBA application is live! The application is available on the scholarship platform.

Sponsored by the Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington (AOBA), the Scholarship Program offers graduates of Prince George's County high schools paid tuition to Prince George's Community College, worth $6,000, over a two-year period.

The priority deadline for the application is June 1. 2023.

Board of Trustees’ Legacy Scholarship

The Board of Trustees’ Legacy Scholarship was established to recognize graduates of Prince George's County high schools who demonstrate high academic ability and strong leadership qualities. Scholarship recipients are selected from among those who meet the eligibility requirements and who are committed to attending Prince George's Community College.

Edward T. Conroy Scholarship

The Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship Program is designed to provide financial aid to sons and daughters of deceased, missing in action or prisoner of war United States armed forces personnel, sons and daughters of deceased public safety personnel, surviving spouses who have not remarried of deceased public safety personnel, disabled public safety personnel and sons, daughters and/or surviving spouses of victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, attending a Maryland postsecondary institution.

Foundation Scholarships

Prince George’s Community College Foundation has established scholarships to reward students who demonstrate high academic ability and assist them in continuing their education at Prince George’s Community College. 

Foundation scholarships can pay for tuition, fees, and books. Scholarship criteria differs and may or may not include financial need, academic merit, major, special skills or talent, community service, and more.

Governor's Emergency Education Relief Fund

The Governor of the State of Maryland has established a fund to help Maryland residents who have been impacted by COVID enroll in workforce training classes that lead to a labor market recognized credential, so that students can return quickly to work.

Honors Academy Scholarship

Honors Academy scholars may hold dual admission in Prince George's Community College and a participating four-year college or university. While the list of participating institutions is constantly growing, it currently includes: American University, Catholic University of America, Howard University, Goucher College, St. Mary's College, University of Maryland College Park, University of Maryland University College, and Washington College. Upon graduation from PGCC, the Honor's Academy scholar will receive Honors Academy recognition and a seamless transfer into one of the partnering four-year colleges or universities. An Honors Academy scholar also has the option of applying for transfer to any college or university that is not part of the dual admission agreement.

An Honors Academy scholar receives financial support from Prince George's Community College as long as he/she satisfies the requirements of the Academy and maintains his/her eligibility. Upon graduation from PGCC, the Honors Academy scholar will receive financial support from the partnering four-year college or university.

PGCC Honors Academy scholars have other educational opportunities as well, including:

  • Membership in the Honors Program & Honors Society
  • Study under outstanding faculty with fellow Academy scholars
  • Assignment to a special Honors Academy advisor
  • The option to participate in research and internships
  • Possible induction into Phi Theta Kappa, the international Honor Society for two-year colleges

The Pepco Community Scholars Program provides financial aid to PGCC students pursuing STEM subjects and other high-demand related majors, such as IT, business, data analytics, communications, and more.

PepsiCo Foundation Uplift Scholarship Program

Prince George’s Community College has partnered with the PepsiCo Foundation to support Black and Hispanic students through the Uplift Scholarship program.

This program provides scholarships, coaching, and job placement assistance to help students achieve greater academic success and ultimately obtain jobs in high-demand career fields by increasing access and removing barriers.

Southern Management Leadership Program Scholarship

(formerly the Hillman Entrepreneurs Program)

Students who have a passionate desire to develop into impactful, creative and inspiring leaders may apply for admission to the Southern Management Leadership Program. Admission is competitive and students in any transferable major can apply. The program, which is a collaboration with the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), develops students’ leadership abilities while supporting academic success. Students who are admitted receive 55 percent of their tuition paid and will receive a textbook scholarship of $500 while at Prince George’s Community College. Once they complete their associate degrees, students transfer to UMCP to earn their bachelor’s degree. At UMCP, the Southern Management Leaders will have up to 50 percent of their tuition paid and will receive a merit scholarship of $1000. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Maryland residents. For more information, call 301-546-0700.

Local Impact Grant

Prince George’s Community College, in collaboration with Council member Edward Burroughs III, has introduced the Impact Grant program for the 2023-2024 academic year, aimed at providing eligible students with partial or full scholarships. These scholarships cover tuition and mandatory fees for a range of educational offerings, including credit and continuing education courses, certifications, workforce development, and senior adult programming.

The Prince George’s County Promise Scholarship is designed to help students complete their education by covering costs beyond the federal, state, and private scholarships they receive. The Prince George’s County Promise Scholarship Program will cover tuition and fees for eligible students.

Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship

The Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship creates opportunities for students to attend one of Maryland’s public community colleges by providing tuition assistance for any student eligible for in-state tuition up to $5,000. As a “last dollar” scholarship, it covers any remaining tuition and mandatory fees after other grants and scholarships are applied.
