Assessment Technologies Institute Test of Essential Skills (ATI TEAS)

Students applying for admission to the nursing program are required to take the Assessment Technologies Institute Test of Essential Skills (ATI TEAS). Developed and administered by the ATI, TEAS is an exam of 170 multiple-choice questions. ATI TEAS is offered in a computerized format. The minimum required overall total score is 58.7% or higher (proficient or higher). Applicants to the nursing program are required to have a minimum reading score of 70% or higher. A passing score in the ATI TEAS exam is required to petition for the nursing program.

You must first meet with an Allied Health and Nursing petitioning advisor to obtain a list of admission criteria and prerequisite coursework. Your petition for program admission will be considered complete once you have met all criteria and have completed the last prerequisite course. Please contact healthscienceadvisor@pgcc.edu for more information.

The nursing program requires students to complete prerequisite courses with grades of C or higher, maintain a specified GPA, and meet program-specific requirements before petitioning for program admission. In some cases, students may petition while currently enrolled in their final prerequisite courses. A grade of W has no impact on the student's GPA, but counts as one attempt at the course. Third attempts in all qualifying prerequisite courses are not accepted.

Admissions and Selection Criteria

Please note that the criteria listed below are the minimum requirements for consolidation. There is no guarantee of admission to any of these programs based solely upon meeting the minimum standard.

  • Selection for admissions is based on a point system. Students with the highest points will be admitted first until all seats are filled.
  • All qualifying prerequisites and supporting prerequisites must be completed with a grade of C or higher to be considered for admission.
  • In the event of a point tie, the student's actual TEAS score percentage will be reviewed first, then the overall GPA will be reviewed second as the tiebreaker (whichever is higher).
  • Petition application deadlines: February 1 for fall and August 1 for spring (TEAS must be completed by the deadline).
  • You must meet with a Health Sciences advisor by appointment in Navigate to go over the Nursing Point System.
  • If you have questions, need help with student planning, or are interested in petitioning for the Nursing Program, email the Health Sciences Advisor at healthscienceadvisor@pgcc.edu.
  • To learn more about the nursing point system, please review the Admissions Process and Nursing Point System document.
