This Employer Guide outlines the expectations for site supervisors who have been approved to oversee internships offered to and accepted by Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) students. If you have already completed some of the steps, proceed to the next step in sequence. Be sure to observe and honor site supervisor expectations listed as well.

Step 1:  Request a College Central Network (CCN) Employer Account

  • Visit the College Central Network (CCN) site for PGCC.
  • Once on the site, click on the Employers box to access Employer Services.
  • Once on the Employer Services page, click on the Create Account button to request a PGCC CCN.
  • Complete each section with a red asterisk (*); however, by completing sections without the asterisk, the employer will help to expedite the review process and help prospective students and alumni to find more information about the organization and opportunities available.
    • Employers are strongly encouraged to add their company logo to increase their presence within our database.
    • Select the top three industries associated with their organization, including those for which the employer is hiring, to target specific populations of interest.
  • Once the employer account request has been submitted, the staff in the Office of Career Development and Internships (CD&I) will review the request to confirm the validity and accuracy of the information provided. Should all provided information be acceptable, the employer's account is approved for access to the site to post opportunities, to seek highly qualified candidates, and to confirm/approve internship offers.
  • Employers are asked to have a CCN Employer Account, and be in good standing with CD&I, to participate in recruitment events/activities and to serve as a host employer for internships. Good standing is defined as:
    • Having satisfied all employer requests made by CD&I; and
    • Having honored all commitments made to CD&I and PGCC students.

Step 2:  Monitor College Central Network (CCN) Employer Account Dashboard

  • Visit the College Central Network (CCN) site for PGCC.
  • Login to the approved CCN Employer Account to view the dashboard.

Step 3:  Take Requested Action in College Central Network (CCN) Employer Account

Prince George's Community College uses the adapted National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) criteria below to evaluate proposed internship experiences.

Criteria For An Experience To Be Defined As An Internship

To ensure that an experience—whether it is a traditional internship or one conducted remotely or virtually—is educational, and thus eligible to be considered a legitimate internship by the NACE definition, all the following criteria must be met:

  1. The experience must be an extension of the classroom: a learning experience that provides for applying the knowledge gained in the classroom. It must not be simply to advance the operations of the employer or be the work that a regular employee would routinely perform.
  2. The skills or knowledge learned must be transferable to other employment settings.
  3. The experience has a defined beginning and end, and a job description with desired qualifications.
  4. There are clearly defined learning objectives/goals related to the professional goals of the student’s academic coursework.
  5. There is supervision by a professional with expertise and educational and/or professional background in the field of the experience.
  6. There is routine feedback by the experienced supervisor.
  7. There are resources, equipment, and facilities provided by the host employer that support learning objectives/goals.
  8. There is a plan in place for the protection of the health and safety of all employees and volunteers on site. Student is provided all necessary guidelines to ensure their health and safety on site.
  9. I understand that the College is not responsible for accidents/injuries/medical conditions and resulting treatment which occur on-campus, traveling to and from the [internship site], or while at the [internship site], and I hold the College harmless and release the College from all liability and responsibility for all injuries, expenses, and any other damages which arise from exposure to any communicable disease, including but not limited to COVID-19.
  10.  The acceptance of a paid or non-paid intern is acknowledgement of the above stated criteria.

Expectations for Site Supervisors

  • Meet the NACE Guidelines (see Appendix A) and/or credentialing agency requirements, and the College’s academic program requirements for interns to gain experience in their chosen field.
  • Supervise interns and provide feedback to them regarding their performance and professionalism.
  • Track the intern’s attendance to verify hours worked.
  • Accommodate the Faculty Sponsor’s site visit; Visit may be in-person, virtual, electronic, or telephonic.
  • Provide regular feedback regarding the intern’s performance and progress to the Faculty Sponsor.
  • At the end of the internship experience, complete and submit the appropriate evaluation form.
