Emergency Closings and Delays Policies

Largo / Laurel / Joint Base Andrews / Skilled Trades Center / University Town Center / Westphalia Training Center
  • Emergency closings and delays are posted on the college website.
  • When the college announces a delayed opening, classes with at least 45 minutes of class time remaining at the time of the opening will be held.
  • Subscribe to Owl Alert
  • Local radio and TV stations will be asked to announce closings.
SAGE Sites
  • If Prince George’s County Public Schools are closed due to bad weather, SAGE classes (except ATH-900/901 and ATH-930) are canceled.
  • ATH-900/901 and ATH-930 follow PGCC closings and delays.
  • Saturday – check www.pgcps.org or check local radio and TV stations to determine if a site is open for classes.
    A one-hour delay does not affect SAGE classes.
  • If Prince George’s County Public Schools are delayed for two hours, SAGE classes starting before 11 am will be canceled.
  • If Prince George’s County Public Schools close early because of predicted bad weather, all SAGE classes after 2 pm will be canceled

Adult Education Sites – For classes held at PGCC locations (Largo, Laurel College Center, UTC; also Sports and Learning)
  • Follow PGCC closings and delays. If PGCC is closed throughout the scheduled time for the class, the class is cancelled. ​
  • If PGCC closes early, classes scheduled for after the closing time are cancelled.
    If the college opens at a specific time (e.g. 11 am), classes scheduled for 9 to 12 or 9 to 2 will begin at 11 and end at the regularly scheduled time (unless alternate arrangements are made by Adult Education staff).

  • If PGCPS closes early or cancels evening activities, classes scheduled for after the closing time are cancelled. If PGCPS opens 1 hour late or 2 hours late, morning classes will begin on time, not late (unless alternate arrangements are made by Adult Education staff).
  • If PGCPS opens at a specific time (e.g. 10 am on a Saturday), classes scheduled for that time will begin at 10 am and end at the usual time (unless alternate arrangements are made by Adult Education staff).

Dining Options

The food service areas on the main campus are operated on a contractual basis. They include the dining hall, Encore cafe, catering services, as well as food and drink machines in various locations. The hours of operation are:

Dining Hall - Largo Student Center, second floor
Monday–Thursday, 7:30 a.m.– 6 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m.–2 p.m.

Refunds for vending machines on the Largo campus may be obtained from any cashier in the dining hall. Call 301-546-0904 for any inquiries or problems concerning food services, or go to the dining hall in the Largo Student Center.

Laurel College Center
Sandwich shop open during the day, restaurants within walking distance. Vending on floors 3, 4, and 5.

Joint Base Andrews
Vending is on first floor.

Skilled Trades Center
Vending is in break room.

University Town Center
Vending is on ground floor and second floor.

Westphalia Training Center
Vending in main hallway. The small kitchen, where lunches can be stored, includes stove and microwave.


Vending machine concerns at the extension/degree sites should be addressed in the administrative offices at the respective site.

Employee Relations promotes strong employer-employee relationships that contributes to higher productivity along with increased motivation and morale. Employee Relations processes DARE to Excel Awards to celebrate workplace excellence, administers the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which offers support services for employees experiencing personal challenges, and provides proactive solutions to prevent and resolve problems that arise out of or affect work situations.

Administrative Officer Duty – Evenings (Monday-Thursday 5 p.m.–10 p.m.)

All college administrators work a specified number of evenings per year, based on an alphabetical rotation (Monday-Thursday) as part of their administrative functions. The evening administrator is located in the Bladen Hall Campus Police Substation to assist students, faculty, staff and visitors as needed between 5:00p.m. – 10:00 p.m. The evening administrator can be reached by cell phone at 240-508-5732. The on-campus extension for the substation is 301-546-2761.

Administrative Officer Duty – Weekends (Friday, 5-10 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and Sunday, 12:30–5:30 p.m.

Selective weekend administrators are located in the Bladen Hall Campus Police Substation to assist students, faculty, staff and visitors as needed on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. The weekend administrator can be reached by cell phone at 240-508-5732. The on-campus extension for the substation is 301-546-2761. Whenever you are calling a campus number from a campus phone, you only need to dial the last four numbers.

There is support staff located in Marlboro Hall Rm. 1095 to assist you with any office support needs during the weekend hours. The weekend college will distribute a class roster to your room on the first Friday evening of your weekender class.

FERPA

FERPA: The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974

This law protects student educationa​​​l records and describes when it is appropriate to release student information. Students have the right to limit the release of information, except as permitted by the law. Should someone ask for information about a student, consult with your chair or dean before giving out information.

Be aware of individuals who may be within earshot of your conversations with students especially if you are discussing grades. Do not post grades with names or other easily identifiable systems, for instance, alphabetical by last name. Do not leave graded papers on an untended desk or in a box for students to pick up. Always check with your chair or dean if you have questions about student information.

Payroll Information

All credit faculty are paid every two weeks. The schedule usually begins the third Friday of the semester. The last payment arrives after the grades have been submitted. See Owl Link for more information.

Continuing Education faculty are paid bi-weekly during the contract period.

Governance is the process of establishing policies, procedures, regulations, and practices of institution-wide significance. The system of governance at Prince George’s Community College is one of a collaborative nature grounded in integrity, transparency, and respect.  The governance structure of the college is composed of several constituencies that have distinct roles as identified in the Governance Diagram, which can be found in the Frequently Referenced Documents section on the College Governance portal page.

Board of Trustees

The  along with the President retain the ultimate responsibility for policy-making decisions. The Board of Trustees meets the second Thursday of each month in Kent Hall, Room 262 at 7 p.m. (Except August and January).

Office of the President

The  along with the Board of Trustees retain the ultimate responsibility for policy-making decisions, the College-wide Forum shall consider the activities of the College in all of its phases, with particular attention to the educational objectives of the College. The President reviews recommendations that the College Wide Forum considers to be of interest to the College and those matters that affect the common interests of employees and students.

Senior Team

The  consists of the President, the Chief of Staff and the Vice Presidents of Academic Affairs, Administrative Services, Student Services, Technology Services, and Work Force Development and Continuing Education.  They act in an advisory role to the President concerning College matters.

Academic Council

The Academic Council reviews and revises academic policies and procedures, and makes recommendations to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs.  This group coordinates academic regulations and standards, curriculum development, academic assessment, and academic professional development.

Administrative and Professional Staff Organization (APSO)

The Administrative and Professional Staff Organization works to strengthen collaboration and communication among all college constituencies, by actively participating in the formulation of college policies and procedures, and promoting professional development for administrative and professional staff.

College-wide Forum

The College-wide Forum shall consider the activities of the College in all of its phases, with particular attention to the College as a learning-centered institution and to those matters that affect the common interests of employees and students.  One of the major roles of the Forum is to identify the interests of the College’s various constituents and to find mechanisms by which to foster the welfare of the College.

Faculty Organization

The purpose of the Faculty Organization is to enact, support, and advance Prince George’s Community College’s beliefs about education as articulated in our philosophy of education, within all aspects of college goal-setting, planning and operations, including setting and promoting appropriate professional standards for faculty, representing the faculty viewpoint in decision-making at the college, and promoting the well-being of all full-time and adjunct faculty members.

Student Governance Association (SGA)

The Student Governance Association (SGA) of Prince George’s Community College works to promote good relationships and understanding among the students, administration, faculty, staff and trustees; to unify the student body on the main campus and extension centers in the development of self-governance; and to set a high level of standards through responsible conduct. The SGA advises the Board of Trustees, the college president, the faculty organization, the classified & technical staff organization and administrative & professional staff organizations on student matters that will ensure the welfare and interests of students.

Technical and Support Staff Organization (TSSO)

The Technical and Support Staff Organization represents and supports the non–union technical and support staff at Prince George’s Community College.  The TSSO participates in the formulation of policies and procedu­res affecting the technical and support staff, in conjunction with the president of the college and the Board of Trustees. The TSSO fully cooperates with other official college organizations or committees, and provides professional development and training information to the members.
