LARGO, Md. (May 1, 2020)
– Prince George’s Community College is responding to the immediate and emerging needs of its students in this COVID-19 pandemic by joining #GivingTuesdayNow, a new global day of giving and unity, which will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.

In addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020, #GivingTuesday, #GivingTuesdayNow is an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.

The College’s faculty, staff, alumni, and students are encouraged to demonstrate their generosity on #GivingTuesdayNow by making an online donation that will be directed to the Owl Emergency Response Fund. The fund was launched by the Prince George’s Community College Foundation to help students overcome immediate and emerging educational needs and hardships that pose barriers to their academic success.

“There is an immediate and emerging need to support our students during this pandemic, and that is why the College is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow,” said Brenda Mitchell, executive director of the Office of Institutional Advancement, Prince George’s Community College. “This is a unique opportunity to provide support for our students’ educational and personal needs. Our goal is to raise $20,000, and with the support of our partners, donors, friends, and family, I am confident that we will exceed that goal and provide much-needed support to our students.”

“Helping our students make rapid adjustments to facilitate continued learning in response to these challenging times is our utmost priority,” said Prince George’s Community College President Charlene M. Dukes.

About GivingTuesday
GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past eight years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to give. GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity, and equity around the globe. #GivingTuesdayNow is organized by GivingTuesday, in partnership with its global network of leaders, partners, communities, and generous individuals. GivingTuesday is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.
