Prince George's Community College Foundation Hosts Biennial Scholarship Golf Tournament to Support Student Success

College alumni and long-time donors to serve as event co-chairs, pay it forward

Sponsors and College community participate in Scholarship Golf Tournament

LARGO, Md. (September 8, 2021) – The Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) Foundation announced today its biennial Scholarship Golf Tournament, which will be held September 9, at Oak Creek Golf Club in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Proceeds from the event will provide scholarship opportunities for students in need.

Ardania Williams, Lendana Construction, LLC and Dr. David E. Harmon, Harmon Orthodontics will serve as the 2021 event co-chairs. As alumni, their firsthand knowledge of the impact of a Prince George’s Community College education will lend a valuable perspective as the foundation hosts dedicated partners, including Gilbane Building Company and CareFirst, in addition to corporate sponsors, alumni, faculty and staff, and friends of the College.

“We are both alums of Prince George’s Community College and have been business owners in the county for several years,” said Ardania Williams and Dr. David E. Harmon. “We are honored to pay it forward.”

“Whether students come to earn credits toward a degree, like David, or to expand the capacity of an existing business, like Ardania, PGCC is a viable option,” said Brenda Mitchell, executive director, Prince George’s Community College Foundation, Inc. “Our Scholarship Golf Tournament provides an opportunity for golfers and non-golfers alike to come together and demonstrate our support of the College and its impact on the broader community.”

Prince George’s Community College serves a high percentage of low-income students, and 75% of current students identify as Black or Hispanic. Local, state, and national data show a higher unemployment rate and lower than average income in select areas from which the College recruits students.

The Scholarship Golf Tournament provides resources for the College to remove barriers in order to enhance and expand its efforts to address need-based aid for students and promote equitable outcomes for all learners, including those from underrepresented groups.

“Prince George’s Community College provides pathways to in-demand fields for learners who seek a degree, as well as a variety of attractive options for those already in the workplace who need to enhance their skills and marketability,” said Michael Crase, vice president of Gilbane Construction. “We are proud to continue our partnership with the institution, which has a positive impact on businesses and the economy throughout the region.”
