Prince George’s Community College #GivingTuesday Campaign to Advance Equity, Access, and Student Success

College joins global generosity movement and unites community

Community building and fundraising

LARGO, Md. (November 23, 2021) – Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) is set to partner once again with GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity. Held annually in the United States on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, this year’s campaign takes place on Nov. 30.

Funds raised during the Prince George’s Community College GivingTuesday campaign support Champions of the Arts and other College initiatives that drive student success. Champions of the Arts enable a premier environment for expanded, comprehensive, and state-of-the-art expressions that support robust educational programming and celebrate the community's cultural vibrancy.

Specifically, program sponsors provide support for arts education programming and experiential learning; reduce barriers to arts participation; increase access and opportunity for underserved individuals; and underwrite costs associated with the sustainability of the Center for Performing Arts.

“An educated society is a better society, and what better way to support than with a gift to education,” said Brenda Mitchell, executive director of the Prince George’s Community College Office of Institutional Advancement. “Our students are able to continue to thrive because of the collective support from individuals and corporate partners to the Foundation.”

The College’s fundraising goal for its 2021 GivingTuesday campaign is $20,000. Last year, the College’s GivingTuesday campaign raised $13,541 in support of students, with 72% of total dollars coming from faculty and staff.

Prince George’s Community College has a rich history of providing affordable, high-quality learning experiences for diverse populations. The College serves the greatest percentage of non-white credit students in the state of Maryland, with 68% of students identifying as Black and 13% identifying as Hispanic. According to the latest data, 51% of Prince George’s Community College students identify as “first-generation.”
