Prince George’s Community College Men’s Basketball Team Wins Region 20 Championship Game

LARGO, Md. (February 25, 2024) The Prince George's Community College men’s basketball team won the 2024 National Junior College Athletics Association Region 20 Division III Men's Basketball Tournament held at PGCC’s Novak Field House on Sunday, February 25. The PGCC Owls defeated Community College of Allegheny County with a score of 59-96.
“They came in with the mindset, we have three championships we need to win-the region, the district, and nationals,” Terrell Harris, PGCC’s men’s basketball head coach, said. “We can check regionals off and now the [district] is up next!”
The men’s and women’s basketball teams at PGCC will now advance to the Mid-Atlantic District Championship on Saturday, March 2. The PGCC women’s basketball team will face Patrick & Henry Community College at noon and PGCC’s men’s basketball team will play Sandhill Community College for the District title at 3 p.m.
The winner of the Mid-Atlantic District Championship earns an automatic bid to the 2024 NJCAA DIII Men's Basketball Championship held in Herkimer, New York as one of twelve teams in contention for a national title from March 13-16.
“The future is very bright,” Harris said. “I’m so proud of the freshman. They developed and grew all season.”
Under the leadership of Harris and assistant coaches Kennith Ford and Mykal Johnson, the PGCC men’s basketball team is currently ranked #10 in the NJCAA Division III national ranking.
