Award-Winning Journalists Discuss Broadcasting Excellence with Prince George's Community College Mass Communication Students
LARGO, Md. (April 19, 2023) – The Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) Department of Humanities presented its Mass Communication Speakers Series on broadcasting journalism excellence at the Center for Performing Arts last month, welcoming nine award-winning women journalists to campus. They discussed their insights with students regarding radio, television, and film industry topics. Register today for this free virtual event, which airs on April 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Railey, Ph.D., executive vice president and provost of Teaching, Learning, and Student Success. “Our core commitments at Prince George’s Community College are students first, achievement, continuous improvement, empathy, equity, and integrity. There’s no better way to ensure student success than to provide opportunities to see it firsthand, providing direct access to some of the most outstanding individuals in the field.”
Emmy Award-winning broadcaster and Professor of Mass Communication Lou Holder hosted the program on March 28 during Women’s History Month. His guests included current and former Washington, D.C. area women journalists Molette Green, Irene Johnson, Allison Seymour, Alison Starling, Maureen Umeh, Maureen Bunyan, Laura Evans, Sue Palka, and Andrea Roane.
“This speaker series gives our mass communication students insight into what excellence in broadcast journalism looks like from the perspective of outstanding journalists who have covered the news in this area for years,” said Holder.
The Mass Communication Speaker Series is presented annually to elevate student learning at PGCC by inviting the best practitioners in their field to discuss their experiences.
