Information security is one of the hottest areas in the tech world today. Topics covered include general security, communication security, infrastructure security, basics of cryptography, and organizational security. Upon completion of the class, students should be prepared to take the CompTIA vendor-neutral Security+ exam.

Learning on your own time

Students taking an online class can access course content 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and have discussions with their instructors and fellow learners using Canvas. Deadlines and due dates will be set for assignments, tests, and projects.

Learning in real time

Students who take a remote class will meet online via Zoom in your Canvas course at scheduled times with set deadlines and due dates. Students will ​also access learning materials, assignments, and participate in discussions via Canvas.

TEC-702 Internet Safety: How to be Cyber Secure

In this course, students will be taught how to identify techniques to be safer on the world wide web. Students will learn the “what” and “who” of cybersecurity: the techniques criminals are using to steal information and who is behind these attacks. Students will become empowered to combat cyber criminals with an abundance of techniques, including: antivirus software, setting up proper accounts on the computer for daily use, email dos and don’ts, online purchasing, and safe web browsing. Topics include online ethics, privacy, security, and safety prevention methods for cyber-attacks.

TEC-701 Introduction to Cyber Security     

This course is a comprehensive introduction to protecting business information and the systems that support business processes. The objective is to identify common threats and attacks employed against web-accessible applications, analyze the role of security models and architectures, explain the role of cryptography, and analyze issues related to security management and network security. 

$200 (includes $25 lab fee).

TEC-704 Computer Security/Security+

Designed to give the student a foundation of understanding of various computer security concepts, functions, and applications. The class maps to the CompTIA Security+ exam and includes these topics: general security, communication security, infrastructure security, basics of cryptography, and operations/organizational security. Upon completion of the class, students should be prepared to take the CompTIA vendor-neutral Security+ exam. Successful completion of this exam is generally globally recognized as equivalent to an entry-level security specialist position.

TEC-705 CISSP Preparation

This course explores and reviews all eight domains of the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) and can be used as preparation for the CISSP exam or the Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) exam as administered by the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2). Meets concurrently with credit course INT-2690. 

Prerequisite: Security+.

TEC-707 Introduction to Cybersecurity Analyst

In this course, students learn the fundamentals, deployment, integration, and management of cyber-analytics tools, including open-source and vendor-specific solutions, such as Fortinet’s solutions. Skills taught in this course include device registration, policy packages, shared objects, centralized logging and reporting, and troubleshooting, features that are critical to day-to-day use. In interactive labs, learners explore system administration and management, register devices for log collection and centralization, perform forensic analysis of logs based on simulated network attacks, create reports, and explore solutions to common misconfiguration issues. The course objectives support the CompTIA CySA+ certification. Meets concurrently with credit course INT-2682.

TEC-708 Introduction to Firewalls

This course provides the basics of next-generation security firewalls and helps learners to identify common attacks and threats against networks to identify vulnerabilities in network security. The course describes the current cutting-edge technologies that help prevent and mitigate cyberattacks. Students learn key topics such as cryptography, virtual private networks, and endpoint protection. They also become competent at configuring basic features of next-generation firewalls. The course helps prepare learners to take firewall-related industry certification exams. Meets concurrently with credit course INT-2670.

Prerequisite: Security+.

TEC-709 Cybersecurity Operations: CBROPS Associate Certification

This course is designed to prepare students for the Cisco Certified CyberOps (CBROPS) Associate Certification. Upon completing this course, students will be prepared to take the CBROPS exam to achieve the Cisco Certified CyberOps Associate certification. This certification validates students' knowledge and skills to work in a Security Operations Center (SOC). In this course, students learn the skills related to network security, security monitoring, host-based analysis, network operations, and intrusion analysis. Students also learn the importance of written security policies and procedures in an organization. Meets concurrently with credit course INT-2490.

TEC 710 Computer Forensics

The course emphasizes the proper handling of digital evidence, tools and techniques utilized in digital forensics analysis, appropriate documentation and report generation, and the laws and ethics governing evidence handling and chain of custody. Students learn how to conduct a physical crime scene investigation in a hands-on practicum, perform live acquisition of digital evidence at the scene, examine the seized electronic evidence using forensic sound methods, and produce findings in an examiner's report. Meets concurrently with credit course INT-2600.

Successful completion of this exam is globally generally recognized as equivalent to an entry-level security specialist position. Once you pass the Security+ exam and receive the national certification, you are eligible to receive 3 PGCC college credits for INT 1620.
