As a student at Prince George's Community College, you are expected to maintain academic good standing for the entirety of your attendance at the College. Failure to do so may result in an academic dismissal if you do not achieve at least a 2.0 GPA while on academic restriction.

Academically dismissed students should electronically submit an Application for Reinstatement Form for reinstatement consideration. Students dismissed for the first time will be eligible for re-admission after one semester has concluded (not including the winter intersession). After a second or subsequent dismissal, students will not be eligible for re-admission for one full calendar year.

What Happens Next

  • Once an application has been submitted, it will be reviewed by the Reinstatement Committee.
  • A decision about your appeal will be rendered via email within 14 days.
  • If approved, the student must schedule a Reinstatement Advising Appointment via Navigate for guidance on the next steps.

Understanding the Academic Standing Policy

At the end of each semester, each student’s cumulative GPA is computed to determine their academic standing.

Good Standing

A student remains in good academic standing provided they maintain the minimum GPA standards set by the college.

Academic Warning

Academic Warning occurs when a student, at any point, attempts six credits (or two developmental courses) and falls below the prescribed minimum standards for good academic standing.

Student on Academic Warning
  • May not register for more than 13 credit hours.
  • Must achieve a 2.00 semester GPA every period enrolled.
  • Failure to reach the minimum standard will result in Academic Restriction.
Academic Restriction

Academic Restriction occurs when a student on Academic Warning fails to achieve at least a 2.00 semester GPA or reach a minimum cumulative GPA.

Students on Academic Restriction:
  • May register for no more than 7 credits. Recommended two courses max.
  • Must achieve the minimum required 2.00 GPA during the current enrollment period to return to Academic Warning status or, if applicable, to Good Standing.
  • Failure to achieve the minimum required cumulative GPA, but those who achieve a 2.00 term GPA will remain on Academic Restriction. Those who fail to meet this requirement are dismissed.
Academic Dismissal

Academic Dismissal occurs when a student on Academic Restriction fails to achieve at least a 2.00 GPA during the current enrollment period.

Students on Academic Dismissal:
  • Disenrolled from upcoming term, if preregistered.
  • Ineligible for registration for at least one semester after dismissal.
  • After a second/subsequent dismissal, students will not be eligible for readmission for one full calendar year.
