Supporting Student Health and Well-Being

Counseling services are offered by the Prince George’s Community College Wellness Center.

Counseling Services provides workshops, trainings, and one-on-one sessions to assist students, using an effective short-term, solution-focused program. Students often seek counseling when they are facing personal and academic stressors that leave them feeling worried, lonely, confused, and overwhelmed, or when they want to thrive even in the face of life’s challenges. Any personal issue can be addressed in counseling such as:

  • Anxiety or constant worry
  • Balancing academics and family life
  • Crisis intervention/referral
  • Depression, loneliness, or suicidal thoughts
  • Discovering character strengths
  • Domestic violence
  • Trauma
  • Grief and loss
  • LGBTQ discrimination
  • Substance abuse recovery
  • Relationship challenges

In counseling, contrary to what you see in the movies, there are no couches or intrusive questions. Instead, you’ll find a licensed professional who is on your side. What you share in counseling is held in confidence so you can relax and open up about whatever is bothering you. Records are kept entirely separate from your academic files. All information is confidential and cannot be released to anyone (even to parents) without your permission. However, in situations that involve potential harm to self or others, counselors are required to share information to ensure everyone’s safety.

Meet with one of our counselors to find support, comfort, and real solutions, so you can move forward toward your goals.
