Federal and State Financial Aid Programs

Students who want to be considered for a federal or state-sponsored aid program must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

Important Information

During the fall 2024 term, students receiving a Federal Pell Grant award must register for ALL fall courses no later than September 16, 2024. Classes added after September 16, 2024, will not be eligible for Federal Pell Grant funding.**

During the spring 2025 term, students receiving a Federal Pell Grant award must register for ALL spring courses no later than February 11, 2025. Classes added after February 11, 2025, will not be eligible for Federal Pell Grant funding.**

During the summer 2025 term, students receiving a Federal Pell Grant award must register for ALL summer courses no later than June 9, 2025. Classes added after June 9, 2025, will not be eligible for Federal Pell Grant funding.**

**Exception: If ALL classes start after September 16, 2024, during the fall 2024 term; or after February 11, 2025, during the spring 2025 term; or after June 9, 2025, during the summer 2025 term, students will be considered for Federal Pell Grant funding.

Financial Aid Programs

Federal Pell Grant

This need-based grant is available only to undergraduate students that demonstrate financial need based on the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Award amounts are based on your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), Cost of Attendance (COA), and the number of credits hours you are enrolled in as determined by the Student Financial Aid office. 

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

This federal need-based grant is available to undergraduate Pell Grant-eligible students that demonstrate financial need. Funding is limited — not every Pell Grant recipient will receive funds.

Maryland State Awards

The Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) offers and administers a variety of state grants and scholarships. Rawlings Educational Assistance Grants, Guaranteed Access Grants, House of Delegates Scholarships, and Senatorial Scholarships are the most common types of awards to Prince George's Community College students.

To be considered for most Maryland grants and scholarships, students must be Maryland residents and have submitted a FAFSA to the Federal processors by March 1. In addition, students must demonstrate financial need or academic merit. For more information, please visit the MHEC website.

Child Care Career and Professional Development Fund 

This federal grant is awarded through the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to Prince George’s Community College to pay for tuition, books, and fees of degree-seeking childcare providers.

District of Columbia (DC) Grants and Scholarships

The District of Columbia offers and administers a variety of tuition assistance grants and scholarships. DC Tuition Assistance Program Initiative for TANF (TAPIT), DC Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG), and DC College Access Program (CAP) are some of the most common types of awards to Prince George's Community College students.

To be considered for most DC awards, students must be a resident of the District and have completed the required application process with the awarding agency.

The Tuition Assistance Program Initiative for TANF, provides financial assistance for TANF customers to pursue post-secondary degrees or college certificate programs. TAPIT is a scholarship program not a loan.

DC-TAG The DC Tuition Assistance Program (DCTAG) was created by Congress in 1999 by the District of Columbia College Access Act; PL 106-98 and amended by DC College Access Improvement Act 2002 and DC College Access Improvement Act 2007 to expand higher education choices for college-bound residents of the District of Columbia.
